Childhood days......
Food that looked fun and tasted so, playdoh and Macs happy meal’s toys that piled up at home, school that felt nothing like school but playtime with classmates, after-school-idle at the nearby playground and sitting on our trolley bags down the long, long slide with screams of excitement and joy:)
Gem biscuits (those bun-like things with white, pink, yellow and green icing bits on top), Hacks, Ribena, Fruit tips and ice popsicles were yummy childhood treats that made me a trigger happy kid. I still remembered how my dad will make me distribute one tube of fruit tips for each and every classmate on my bday and the whole class will sing me a bday song with chalks as substitutes for candles. I played masak-masak with real vegetables and carrots (and wonder why the domestic goddess in me has yet to surface, haha!) I pretended to be a doctor and gave every soft toy a routine health checkup and prescribe medicine (I think I still do now when I am feeling bored or simply mad :)) Hopscotch, zeropoint, five stones, skipping, the country-eraser competition ( Singapore flag was my top most favourite) and catching were what recess in school was for. And it was the only time when it was vaguely possibly to get full marks and a Well Done sticker for any paper!
Now that we are all are grown-ups with so many responsibilities kicking in at different phases of life, there is so much a little wish to go back in time when we were contented with a soft toy from daddy for doing well on a paper, went ecstatic getting permission from mummy to drink F&N orange during Chinese New Year and laying on the mattress in the living room watching Channel 8 dramas that were actually good:)
